Our opening guess dictates the entire trajectory of the puzzle. Pick a weak word, and you're fighting an uphill battle. Pick a mathematically optimized word, and you're setting yourself up for an easy 3-guess finish.
In standard gameplay, your first turn has exactly one job: reveal information. You aren't trying to guess the answer correctly on turn one (the odds are roughly 1 in 2,300). You are trying to eliminate common consonants and locate vowels.
Every valid answer contains at least one vowel (A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y). Words that check 3 or 4 vowels at once are incredibly powerful because they instantly dictate the "shape" of the remaining possibilities.
While vowel hunting is popular, consonant hunting is often mathematically superior according to most wordle solver algorithms. The letters R, S, T, L, N, and E appear in the vast majority of words.
Once you have your colors from STARE or AUDIO, the real game begins. If you only get gray boxes, don't panic! A completely gray first guess is incredibly useful because it eliminates 5 common letters.
If you find yourself stuck after turn two, this is the perfect time to open our word finder tool. Simply plug in the letters you know, set the colors, and let our algorithm analyze the remaining possibilities to secure your streak.
